Hi there,

My computer is so riddled with viruses and other crap
that it doesn't function properly. All I want to do is
format my hard drive and re-install Windows XP fresh. I
have tried a new install from the disk bu tit doesn't
erase the previous veriosn. what can I do?

cheers,
D

During the Fresh Instal process you are presented with a list of Disks and
their partitions - you simply delete (press D then Enter then L - IIRC) the
one that you need to erase and reinstal into the resulting "Unpartitioned
Space"

Boot the computer from the XP CD, select install and you
should get the options to partition and format, then do a
clean install.

.Follow the advice from the other posts to reformat
however if you do not install a good ant-virus program
and keep it updated this will only happen again!!!!

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
