Riched20.Dll

I am running Windows XP Pro. I keep getting an error that
stops certain applications from running, ie Yahoo
Messanger and ICQ. It says there is a Bad Image - can't
find riched20.dll in Windows/System32 Directory. Should I
try fixing XP or reinstalling some other application.
This makes my homelife difficult as my wife can't get on
these programs.

You can get this error if that file is damaged. Do you have Microsoft
Office? Put the Office cd in the drive and do a Repair of Office.

It is a standard file, and will be on the XP CD, in compressed form, or
in an i386 folder put somewhere by the maker if the machine came with
XP.

First step - check *all* system components, in case. Put the CD in the
drive, exit the autorun, then go to Start - Run and run the line
SFC /SCANNOW

If that does not do it, and you have SP1 installed, look for it in
Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386. Rename the copy in use in System32 if
*you* can find it, then copy over this one from ServicePackFiles and
restart

If you don't have SP1 you can run MSConfig.exe and click 'Expand file,
Browsing the File to restore to find Riched20.dl_ in the i386 folder of
the CD, or any other i386 folder offered
and save in Windows\System32
