Hello:

When I right click on an excel file in windows explorer and click on
properties. I will go to the Summary Tab and be in advanced view. I can
see Revision Number. I never see that change. How does that work?

Thanks,

Mark - Using XP Pro SP2 and Excel 2002 (XP)

Microsoft explains all:

Wait! I'll spare you the time:This behavior occurs because Microsoft Excel does not use either of these
statistics.
MORE INFORMATION
The Properties dialog box is shared by Microsoft Office programs. Some
Microsoft Office programs use the Revision number and Total editing time
boxes; however, Microsoft Excel does not use either of these boxes. <<

Note: You can change that value from Windows Explorer, if you want to.

Does that help?

Left click in the space to the right of "Revision Number" - directly under
the name of the person who last saved the file- and a box opens up. You can
type your revision number in here.
best wishes

Thanks for the replies!!!

The article only has applies to Excel 2000. Nothing about 2002 or above,
maybe the article just needs to be updated.

Yes, I was aware that one can manually enter the number, but who's going to
count to manually enter it?

Thanks again,

Mark

Alternatively, maybe nothing has changed, so no need for a newer article.

You are if you want to use the feature because Excel won't on its own. And
how much counting is involved to advance a number to the next higher number?
