Is there a tool to find out what shares a security group has been added to,
beside going through them one by one? A customer asked me today about the
various security groups his department has and what the permission
differences were between them. We didn't have any documentation and don't
know who really developed the various groups. The sysadmin said there wasn't
a way to do it.

Hi Jason.

There are third party tools that may help. Dumpsec from Somar will show share
permissions on a particular computer. ShareEnum from Sysinternals [free] will scan a
whole domain to show who has access to shares and the columns in the report is
sortable. Languard can also scan a network's shares. I can't quite remember exactly
what it reports on them. You can try Languard for free. --- Steve
