I have an ADC and 2000 DNS set up on my domain on a single
server. Names resolve ok both internally and externally.
The only thing I do not have set up is reverse lookup
zones.
Is this essential to have set up for Active Directory?

I have a 172.20.0.0 network and am not sure how to set up
the zone. I use different ranges within the class C like,
172.20.50.1-172.20.55.254 and 172.20.20.1-172.20.20.254.
Do I need to set up a zone for each range? Like
50.20.172.in-addr.arpa and 51.20.172.in-addr.arpa?
Or just one 20.172.in-addr.arpa?

I noticed a post about someones nslookup problem and the
Default Server Unknown: I have the same issue. So I guess
making the reverse lookup zone would alleviate that?

Thanks for all the assistance!

Oh and another quick question:
Why does my AD/DNS server sometimes show an AD folder
under a domain folder in the Cache, Like:
-.
-ORG
-WORLDBANK
-AD

And inside are A Records of what look like AD Servers?
Is this baaad?

thanks again

If you made the zone like this then what about the other several hundred IP
under it that you do not have?
You only have a few of the 64000 or so IP between 172.20.0.0 to
172.20.254.254.

Is one of your subdomains called "AD" under your zone?

The cache folder is just that, they are cached lookups that users have used
to goto on the Internet. DNS caches them for the length of time based on the
TTL of the record. So they could also have gone to some site that was called
ad.domain.com (maybe an advertising site).

This is just conjecture since I don;t know what the cache folder actually
looks like and just going by how you described it.
