Retrieving Word Metadata Revision Log

G

Guest

Hello All,

I came across the following on the net:

"The revision log which shows the last 10 people who have edited a Word
document should be removed. Here's a funny example that shows why this log
can be a problem: http://www.computerbytesman.com/privacy/msftar99.htm. "

source = http://www.computerbytesman.com/security/bill1.htm

I would like to know how to get a look at this revision log... Does anyone
know how? It certainly can be got at, as discussed in this memo and its
references.

Hope someone can help as we really need to identify who made changes to a
document...

Regards

Hi:

If your version of Word is correctly updated and configured, the information
will not be there: Microsoft installed a security patch to remove it some
years ago.

Even if it is there, it will tell you when a user saved a document, it won't
tell you what (if anything) that they changed.

If you open the document using a "Type" of "Recover text from any file"
instead of "Word Document", the information, if it is still in the file, is
close to the far end of the display you see.

Cheers
