Retrieving/Using Previous User Account

After installing a new Hard Drive and backup data following a crash, my
start up page gives only the choice of a the Owner Account. My older user
account with email settings, etc. can be used, but only after going to the
account listed in Documents and Settings on my computer and then C Drive.

How can I get my older user account moved to the new blue start page when
booting up?

Note: The computer shop used updated installation disks with SP2 when they
installed the OS on the new disk drive.

Hi playingpossum

I think you must mean you can access your old data by going to the old
account profile in Documents and Settings?

Your old user account doesn't exist on the new hard drive because the
computer shop didn't create it when they did the clean install of
Windows, but your old profile folder is there from the backup. You need
to create a new account and copy your old data and settings to it. This
article is about recovering from a corrupted user profile, but the
procedure is the same:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151

Do note the warning about Outlook Express data and your address book.
You can associate those to the new profile with the method here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313055

Leave the old profile in place for a while until you're certain
everything you need has been recovered and is working okay.

Let us know how it goes :)

Thanks Nightowl! I'm Not --a Nightowl that it - so I will use your
recommendations later in the week. I feared that I would have to be a bit
more involved in re-creating my old profile but was unsure of the exact
steps. Will let you know how I fare.
