retain formatting

Out of the blue, a few weeks ago, we began experiencing the following problem:
We have two Word 2003 documents. The font used in both is Garamond 12 pt.
When we copy a passage from one of the documents and paste it into the other
document, the font of the copied passage becomes Times New Roman 10 pt.

The information in the link did not have the answer.

Both documents have Garamond 12 pt as their style. We never had this
problem with the documents before a few weeks ago. In fact, in 20 years,
I've never had this issue when copying from one document to another. The
copied text always retained the formating of the original document. Any
other ideas?
