I wish to restrict access of part of a web site to members
only.

They will be given a members name and password.

How can I restrict access so that members have to sign in
using their name and password?

I am on a windows server, not Unix.

First, put all the protected pages inside one folder tree and make it a
subweb.

Then, open the subweb, choose Server from the Tools menu, and select
Permissions.

Finally, disable anonymous access and enmable access for the user accounts
you want.

Not all ISP / WPP allow the use of the Tools | Server | Permissions. This
method also requires that you use FrontPage or some other, ISP / WPP
provided, interface to add users. Making subscriber automation impossible.
It also does not support membership enrollment time periods.

Page Pro does all of the above.
