Restrict DHCP Leases

Jesse

Hi-

Is there a way in Windows 2000 to restrict unauthorized DHCP client
machines from recieving an IP Addresses? I am looking for a way to
prevent rouge machines from being on our internal network without
being authorized. This would greatly improve the security of our
network, expecially preventing viruses coming from contractors
laptops.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Jesse

Age old problem. You could look at using Class ID's which is new for Win2k
but that does require touching every current computer on your network to add
this "Class ID". I beleive this is the only built in way to do it w/o using
a 3rd party product, which I don't even know of any that do this, to
accomplish your goal. You also could go to a non dhcp environment but I
think that is a worse idea ;) Have a look at the help file for Class Id's.
