I have Windows XP Pro - How do I restrict access to IE
and OE from the desktop - Using a Login and Password
would be fine - I just don't know how to set this up in
the PC ?
Thank you,
Paul

Hello Paul,

Just so I am clear, you want to just remove the icons from the desktop, or
you want to eliminate access to them entirely for other users on the same
system?

If you are simply looking to remove the icons, you can do the following -

1. For the OE icon, you can simply delete it.
2. For the IE icon, right click on the desktop and choose Properties.
3. Click on the Desktop tab and then choose Customize Desktop.
4. Now you can remove the check from IE.

Now, if you want to actually block the icons, then you will need to do the
following -

1. Go to Start\Run and type GPEdit.msc
2. The Group Policy Object Editor will launch.
3. Go to the following path -

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Desktop

4. You will see several settings listed, double click on the Hide IE icon
on Desktop and choose to Enable this. It may take a few minutes for the
policy to apply. If it does not seem to apply, then open a CMD prompt and
type gpupdate and this should update the policy.

5. OE does not have an item listed for it, however, you can choose to Hide
and disable all items on the Desktop from here if needed. Otherwise,
simply deleting the shortcut will remove it from the desktop.
