restoring wrongly deleted backup 'D' drive

I am panicking here so hope someone can help!

I downloaded a backup program called back2zip on my husbands computer but it
was causing lots of problems so uninstalled it via the removal option in All
Programs. It didn't uninstall even after restarting the computer.
I knew it backed up the data to drive 'D' and so I deleted this drive.
Unbekown to me my son had already partioned this drive as a manual back-up
area for data for my husband, so now that data too has been removed.

Is there any way I can retrieve the data from this drive - I tried 'Restore'
but it said data on Drive 'D' was not set up to be restored from or words to
that effect.

Any help/advice would be gretfully received.
Thanks

Hi Baffled,

Unfortunately, things like this are a regular problem for people. To
begin with, DO NOT access drive 'D' at all. Attach an external hard
disk and clone the 'D' drive.

Then download the free program Restoration. This program will scan
drive 'd' and look for deleted files depending on the size of the
'D' partition, this process can literally take hours. When it is
done, it will give you a list of files that it 'thinks' it can restore.

Chose the files to restore and then let it run.

You've probably read this a hundred times in this group, but off PC
backup is very important. USB hard disk are relatively inexpensive.
Doing backups to the external drive on a regular basis is a very
good idea especially if you use the computer for business purposes.

Dear Baffled, For your husband's sake leave it to someone who knows what the
heck they're doing
