Greetings
Does anyone know if it is possible to restore the system state data from
backup, so that the computer will function as berfore the restore? I have a
PC that failed to boot, stating that critical system files were missing.
After fiddling around with it for a while I decided that now was a good time
to start fresh with the OS. I reinstalled the OS and everything was working
correctly. I then went to another drive and retrieved a backup that I had
been making weekly, it included the system state data. I restored the data,
overwriting the existing files and then when I rebooted it blue screened with
an error. I went through this senerio twice and then decided that the problem
must be that I am overwriting some other crictal files. What I am after is
restoring the computer to its original state before the crash. All of the
Programs are there, it's just that the registry is not pointing to them. When
I reinstalled the OS, I chose to just have it delete the windows folder. All
other folders were left intact. Also, I had made my profile private on the
original OS and now I can not access it. I am hoping that by restoring the
system state that I can again access my original profile.
