I am too young to comment on Microsoft's Intelligence to design XP SP2
But Still I feel there is some disadvantage on

Restore Registry Settings on Improper Shutdown (XP SP2)

Cool !!!
Don't get excitted friends....

Most of you guys might not have faced the Power Cut Issues in your
zone.
Where as we face almost every day in summer and every 3 days in other
days.

Yes !
We use UPS and Inverters but how long it can with stand.
And that to the PC is used as automatted applications like playing
movies,
Security Systems, and so on...

Home and Office user can shutdown properly just after Power Cuts.
But Un-Maned system will turn off after few minutes of UPS battary ex.

Why can't the saving logic be then and there, at constant interval of
every 60 sec.
So that we get the saved datas and registry settings of most recent.

Now what happens... When we save some thing on the regstry in the
morning and be on working.... By evening Improper shut down occured.
All the precious saved informations are lost.

Same with the file copy from one folder to another.
To try this.. just paste a folder on desk top and make improper
shutdown by un pluging
power plug. After restart that folder in not there in the desktop...

Is it right ? How can Windows decide that copied process is invalid.
I know most of you won't agree with me...
But I have very very bad experiance in this issues...

Any how, let me put my questions to the experts who can save my life
with XP.

I request some one to help me on the following issues:

1. Just after writing some settings in registry by VB6 coding, If I go
to RegEdit and press
F5 the changes saved permenently. How to do the same with in my VB6
coding ?
Or how to tweak the registry to update the changes at every given
time.

2. How to disable the "Last Good..." restoration on every reboot by reg
settings.

Thanks in advance

In any situation/environment where data loss is possible (and in your case
likely): backup, backup, backup.

PS: This is not really an SP2 issue. Even versions of Win9x would try (and
sometimes succeed) to load previous copies of the registry if the current
one was corrupt.

Thanks Sharon F,
Might be...
But as a programer I face lot of problems because of
this over intelligence by MS.

What I wanted from u all is, the work around for this.

The registry is modified in real-time. Not queued for later updates.
You can set Office to save periodically as well.

Your problem is that, if there is problem in shutdown, and the system is
rebooted unintended, the system may resort to 'Last Good Configuration'.
I have not seen this happen automatically, you have to chose the option.

So how are your registry and data not being saved?

Thanks Gardner,
I am getting the same answer from all the experts...
Me too agree that, Registry are being saved in real time.
Other wise my software won't work properly.

But all the new datas are replaced by old one,
when Improper Shutdown happens.

Pls. don't give me solutions like using UPS etc.
There are many sitaution to get this issue.
Even when the software craches due to GPF,
The Registry is replaced with old one.

This happens more in XP SP2
I think over intelligence makes us to suffer.

Pls. suggest me some work around for this issue.

Thanks again...
