Restoring from backups created with a previous computer

I have backup files created from a previous laptop from which I want to
restore a file. When I try restoring I only get lists of backups created
using the backup/restore utility from my current laptop.
How can I restore from the older Windows backup files (they were also
created using the backup/restore utility in Windows XP Pro)?

Presuming NTBackup, you need to catalog the restore file/medium first, IIRC.
Then you'll be able to see what it contains.

Thanks Lanwench but it isn't NTBackup it's the backup utility in XP Pro
accessories. Is it possible to generate this catalogue using XP Pro
backup/restore (I didn't see such an option)?

Ah. Well, that *is* NTBackup. :-)

I don't use the wizard intefcace - I use the classic one.

Restore & Manage Media tab
Right-click on "file" on the left / catalog file / browse & find the file.
