restoring file sharing defaults in Vista

should always document

In trying to establish networking between my shiny new Vista desktop and the
rusty old XP laptop, I tried a lot of things including changing the "share"
options for a lot of the files on the new Vista desktop. I should have been
more careful to document what I had done.

How can I restore the original "file share" defaults in the now not quite as
shiny Vista System? On the laptop, I can see many things from the Vista
machine that I don't think I should see but what I think is the main
"documents" folder, the working folder (if I ever can do work on the new
machine, has "access denied." )

any suggestions for returning to factory status other than using the
recovery disks I so painstakingly burned?

I'm no expert, but Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center will give you a
good way to handle classes of shares (media, public, etc.) Choosing a
Restore Point and restoring to an earlier point in time may also be an
option.
