Restoring boot sector / detecting second HD.

Michael Vondung

I have two identical hard drives in my machine. The first one houses XP,
the second one FreeBSD. FreeBSD was installed as the second OS and
installed its boot program in the boot sector of the first disk. I'm
going to put FreeBSD on a different machine and would like to make the
second HD available to XP also (format it). I'm facing two problems:

1) How do I get the FreeBSD loader/boot program out of the boot sector
of the first disk without reinstalling XP?

2) XP doesn't detect the second disk. How do I go about telling it about
it so that it can be formatted and accessed?

Thanks,
M.

You need to run fixmbr from the windows xp recovery console. This is
similar to the the old "fdisk /mbr" on win9x.

That's on the recovery console too
