Restoring Backup of Outlook 2003

I backed up the entire folder contents from Outlook 2003 using the default
setting of compressible encryption before reformatting my drive and restoring
the system from scratch. When I tried to import the back-up file, it tells
me I am not authorized to do so. Ruh-Roh! I need those emails.

The computer name changed from something auto-generated to a name I
selected. I think, but am not sure, that I changed the computer login name
and password. I may have selected “make my folders private†on the security
settings before backing the files up…

So, am I screwed or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where are the files you're trying to access? How did you back them up? How
and to where did you restore them? What type of Windows account are you
using?

I have administrator access to the computer. They were backed up to another
drive as a PST file saving all sub-folders. I'm trying to restore them as
before. I've done this MANY times with problems. The primary difference is I
failed to uncheck the compressible encryption radio button when backing up.

That doesn't say HOW you backed them up, though.

Off-hand, I don't see how this would affect any backup/restore operation.

I backed up by exporting the contents of all of my personal folders as a PST
file. I tried to restore by importing the same PST file.

Never export to or import from a PST. One of the effects of doing this can
be exactly what you're seeing and there's NEVER a reason to do so. Just
COPY the existing PST while Outlook is closed to perform a "backup" and just
OPEN and existing PST in Outlook to perform a "restore".

1 Try renaming the PST folder before adding it to the profile

2 You may not have converted the files from or to a non unicode data file

3 If utilizing Share mail make sure you copied file dolcert.id from last
backup ...
after 3 files copied (dolcert.id, server.id, cert.id) to server, sharemail
can be open by user. and don't forget to copy scos_1.dir from last backup too.
need to remove the Read Only

4 If restoring through CD save to the hard drive uncheck the Read Only
attribute in the Properties of the pst file.
