How do I restore win2k server to another box with different hardware without having to reinstall any of the applications already installed?

I am not sure if I have to restore the system state. If I DO restore the system state won't the boot files not work with the new server therefore not boot up?

If I DON'T restore the system state won't my apps not run correctly due to the registry not being restored?

There are several methods to port a Win2000 installation to different
hardware. One of then consists of replacing the specific driver for the IDE
controller with the generic Microsoft driver, then let Plug & Play sort out
the other differences. This works fine for most workstations. In the case of
a server I would be reluctant to apply any such method, because of the
central role played by the server. With servers, only the best is good
enough, hence I would recommend a rebuild.
