Would some nice person out here kindly step me through
how to restore a file that was deleted? The file
is "Taskmon.exe", which was infected by the "MyDoom"
virus. I deleted the file and would now like restore a
fresh copy of it to my System32 folder. Thanks!

If you are sure your computer is now clean, put your XP cd in the drive.
Go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. Note that
there is a space between "sfc" and "/scannow". This will start System
File Checker which will replace damaged system files.

"Taskmon" is not a system file. Taskman is! Do you think he typed it
incorrectly?

Here's what Symantec says about it:

"Taskmon.exe is a legitimate file in the Windows 95/98/Me operating
systems, but is in the %Windir% folder, not the %System% folder. (By
default, this is C:\Windows or C:\Winnt) Do not delete the legitimate
file that is in the %Windir% folder."

They're calling this one W32.Novarg.A@mm, but I've heard it called the
more exciting "My Doom".
