I am not able to "restore" to an earlier date no matter what date I select or
whether I restore in "sagfe" mode or not. Neither way works.

Don't trust MS voodoo. Get Acronis True Image and make an image
of a perfect C: drive setup.
(You HAVE partitioned your huge-ass drive into manageable
virtual drives, haven't you?)

What is the reason you wish to run System Restore?

I think your problem stems from one of the following two situations:

1. You have malware.

2. You have legitimate software installed that interferes with SR.
Examples: Norton and Zone Alarm. For more info:

But since you failed in Safe Mode, I'm leaning towars Situation #1.

SR should work just fine, but the mechanism is a frequent target of
malicious software - as are many things that might help you find and
remove malicious software.

Describe your problem a little better - SR doesn't launch, no
calendar, no dates in the calendar, can't choose a date, no RPs on
dates when you think there should be an RP, you invoke the SR process
and something happens to make you think it does not work (like a
Restoration incomplete message when you reboot), etc.

Lets reduce the possibility of malicious software, get more
information about your system and then fix it if it still needs
fixing.

To eliminate questions and guessing, please provide additional
information about your system.

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select
All, Copy and then paste the information back here.

There will be some personal information (like System Name and User
Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just
delete it from the pasted information.

Perform some scans for malicious software, then fix any remaining
issues:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if desired.

I use ERUNT system in conjuntion with SR .

The reason I wanted to restore is that the volume control button on the
taskbar no longer works. I can play all mp3s and .wav and .wmv files and
control the volume with the taksbar button, but when nothing is playing and I
click on the button I get the same "mute" sound regardless of the "mute"
being on or off, or how high or low I raise the volume bar.

I would like to get that fixed because I bought a USB turntable and hooked
it up, and downloaded the Audacity software, and recorded and saved a couple
of songs from an old 33 1/3 LP album. The next day when I tried to record
another song
Audacity would not work. I noticed that I had no sound and went to the
volume control button on the task bar and that is when I noticed the button
would no longer work unless I actually was playing a .wmv or mp3 file. I'm
pretty sure the button has something to do with Audacity not working. So far
I have not been able to reach any tech support from Audacity.

I do have Zone Alarm activated. Maybe if I deactivate that I can get System
Restore to work. I'll look at your link also.

ZA definitely will interfere with SR. The way I get around this is to run SR
in Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Look here:

I have run Malwarebytes, AD Aware, and Spybot, and Webroot SpySweeper and
none of them found anything. I disabled Zone Alarm, and ran System Restore
in the safe mode and that did not work either. I still am not able to make
System Restore work. I tried using AumHa but was not allowed into the system
even though I geve them 3 diferent email addresses.

I did make a new Restore point and and the test worked.
