I have XP Pro SP2. I also had Stumbleupon in the header of Firefox, until
it suddenly refused to appear, and cannot be found, nor will a fresh
installation replace it. So, I thought, restore to an earlier time. I have
now attempted to restore eight times to different dates, some before and
some after MS updates, but each time I get the message that it cannot
restore to that date, and no changes have ben made to my system. The
machine seems to be working normally, except that Registry Mechanic somewhat
unusually found 15 temp files one one scan, and another 3 files on another
scan, all starting with 'restore'. It hasn't helped, and I still can't
restore, nor has Stumbleupon reappeared. I have restored plenty of times in
the past, so it has worked once. Anybody got any ideas please?

I've now tried restoring in safe mode, which didn't work. Now, Registry
Mechanic's window opened at full screen but incomplete, and my quick launch
programs are all missing.

Please ignore the last about the Quick Launch - I have restored it now.

Hi David,

SR has always seemed to fail when it is needed most. I always try that
as a last resort on client machines, but the results usually let me down.

It sounds like your restore points are bad. If so, you may want to turn
off SR so everything will be deleted and then turn it back on so it will
start fresh. Right click on My Computer, click Properties, select System
Restore tab, check "Turn off System Restore on all drives", and click
Apply. After it finishes you can uncheck the box and click Apply again
to reset it.

Regarding Firefox. In Tools, Add-Ons, is StumbleUpon still in the list?
If so, remove it, restart FF and download it again here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/138

You can submit a question directly to the write of the extension here:
http://www.stumbleupon.com/feedback.php

If that doesn't fix it, you can submit a question to the FF group by
subscribing to news.mozilla.org to the group mozilla.support.firefox.

Thanks Bert and Terry - I used add-ons toolbar and Stumble reappeared at
once. I'm now going to switch off restore, and switch it on again, and hope
nothing goes wrong in the meantime.

Thanks Terry, did what you said, followed by a visit to view toolbars, and
all is now well, apart from system restore, which I will now deal with as
Bert suggested.

David

Many here will say dump Registry Mechanic.

Hope this helps.

Glad to hear David. You may want to write down the FF newsgroup above
for future reference, as most here will tell you FF isn't Windows related.

I would suggest reviewing the Event Logs before turning of System Restore.
Turning System Restore off is the last restore, other than reinstalling
System Restore which will produce the same result.
