restore Word 2007 macro

LeAnne

I accidentally saved a macro I created over a built-in macro in Word 2007. It
was Ctrl-O for open file. I tried to re-create it, but it doesn't work. Is
there a way to restore it to the original macro? Thanks in advance.

Hi leAnne,

Easy: reload a backup copy of your original file. But if you don't keep backups, consider this a valuable lesson about the
importance of doing so.

I have a backup drive, but where can I find the file, or what would it be
called?

What exactly have you done? Word doesn't have 'built-in macros'.
Did you create a macro and name it FileOpen - in which case rename it to
something else eg MyFileOpen.
or
Did you reassign the CTRL+O shortcut to another function? In this case
reassign the shortcut to the File Open function from the keyboard shortcuts
customize tool on the QAT (Quick Access Toolbar) editor dialog.

Hi LeAnne,

Graham's right about the 'built-in' macro issue. Unless you're referring to a macro attached to a template you've been using,
perhaps you've just messed up the Ctrl-O keyboard shortcut. These are normally held in your Normal.dot template. To re-establish the
Ctrl-O keyboard shortcut:
.. press Alt-t, c to open up the customisation dialogue box
.. choose Commands > Keyboard
.. choose the 'File' category then the 'FileOpen' command
You should now see the keyboard shortcuts for FileOpen. The defaults are Ctrl-O, Ctrl-F12 and Ctrl-Alt-F12. If Ctrl-O is missing,
simply add it back in. If its still there, then the problem is elsewhere - perhaps in a FileOpen macro in the underlying template.

Yes, that's exactly what I did. Guess it would help if I knew the right
terminology. I can't find the keyboard shortcuts customization tool on the
toolbar. Can't use Ctrl-t like macropod told me because I reassigned that ot
something else too. :( Is there another way to access it?

Hi LeAnne,

Word 2007 shortcuts to the Customization dialog are
Alt, F, I, C
or Alt, T, O, C, Alt-T

Using the mouse:
Office Button=>Word Options=>Customize=>Keyboard Shortcuts [Customize]
