restore utility broken

My 'system restore' is broken. I need to restore to an earlier point in time. It looks to be working, various restore dates show, automatic re-boot kicks in - but 'restore' shows error message that says it didn't take effect. Have retried about 4 times. How do I get this to work again?

No system restore in Windows 2000. Try to ask in a group which corresponds to your operating sysytem.

That's because there is NO System Restore in Win2K !

That's a function of WinXP and WinME.

Win2000 does not have a "Restore" facility. Are you running WinXP? If so
then you might want to post your query in a WinXP newsgroup.
