Restore .REG file association

D

David Peters

Some too-agggressive registry cleaner removed several of my file
associations including .REG

I have a backup up file which has the keys of all the file
associations which were removed. And I want to put them all back.

The trouble is that the file ends in REG and right now REG files have
no association so the registry keys in the file can't be restored.

How can I use the file to have it's reg keys put back?

Or would it be easier to write in the REG association by hand. if so
then what would I put there?

Thank you.

Use system restore to revert the system to a time prior to this
damage.
PS what was the registry cleaner, so other can avoid it?

The trouble with registry cleaners is that you have to read what is being
removed. The good part is that most of them will keep backups. If you still
have it installed (or even if you still have the folder it was installed to)
take a look for a backup.

It is called CCleaner. Normally quite ok but surely it should have
it hard wired into itself not to remove the REG file associations!

If regedit will run, run it and import the .reg file from the File
menu.
