One point is that if you have a background program soaking up the CPU at
all times this will inhibit the making of automatic restore points (eg
Seti@home). Also it is necessary to have the task scheduler active,
even though restore does not appear as a scheduled task. In Control
Panel - Scheduled tasks, click advanced and if there is 'Start using. .
.. ' click it so it says 'Stop using. . . '
Then check at Control Panel - System - System restore to ensure that it
is not disabled. While there I would highlight your C: drive and click
Settings - the space allowed is probably excessive on a large drive. I
would keep it under 1GB and actually use 500 MB, which will cover
probably about 2 weeks. That is as far back as is sensible for this -
it is *not* a replacement for long term backup. Also it is probably
sensible to turn it off altogether on drives used only for data, as that
is outside its remit (so you don't restore and undo all the
modifications you have been making to documents)
