I have tried turning off restore points, rebooting, turning on restore points
and rebooting but I still cannt restore to an earlir point.
I have unchecked (disabled??) the 'Turn on protection to my Symantec
Procuct' but still the restore points do not work.
Many thanks to those who have made suggestions so far, but I still need help.

Hi,

Try running System Restore from Safe Mode.
Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to
start your computer in Safe Mode.

Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account
that has administrator credentials.
In Safe Mode type or paste the following command in the Start - Run box
then press Enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

There are also other possibilities that can cause this to happen. The
following page have some troubleshooting steps to take.

And you never will, now. Doing that deleted all the restore points you may
have had. In fact, a message on the screen advised you of that when you did
it. Always read dialogs that show up.
WHICH restore points did you do this with? Norton's, or System?

That has nothing to do with Restore Points. It only protects Norton files
from being changed.

I suspect you're just sol. Sorry.
