Restore Outlook inbox from Microsoft backup after HD format?

Last week I had to format my hard drive. I reinstalled my business programs
and then did a restore "do not replace" from Microsoft Backup. My Outlook In
box files have not been transferred into my inbox. Where is the Outlook
Inbox in the backup file and how can I restore my old e-mails into my files?

Assuming this is not connected to Exchange Server...

Outlook stores content in a .pst file located, by default here:
drive:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

I would probably configure your new installation of Outlook with the
appropriate account settings.
Then I would extract the old outlook data file (.pst) from the backup, or
restore to a different location, and then reconnect the .pst file
