Restore missing Microsoft Corporation drivers

O

Hey =)

Huum, guess that "=)" is a bit fake at the moment :p Sins I'm having some
major trouble with my computer, or rather, some major trouble with some
corrupt or missing drivers.

Here is the short version of it:

This would be my work computer, a Dell Precision M6300 with Windows XP Pro
English.

And this would be my story:

I was just about to go to lunch (11:30) when I noticed that Panda
MOP(Managed Office Protection) sent me a ton(15-17) of emails about virus
infected files on my computer. Panda MOP is a web based antivirus that has a
client on each computer that reports to the web site. And then, the website
can report back by email, to the system administrators. In this case, that
would be those that I work with and I of course.

Anyway, those emails told me that my computer had been infected, and was
about to be cleaned up.

Then, a few seconds after, a message comes up at my computer and tells me
that it have to delete some files on my computer, that are still in use. And
therefore, have to reboot.
I click "Yes" and smiles happily. . .

Guess I was a bit too soon with that smile :p

Cause Panda had removed 15 or 17 drivers from my
C:\windows\system32\drivers\ folder.

There was allot back a forth with this problem, sins I now couldn’t use my
network card, nor any USB units, DVD/CD drives, or anything that could bring
files or drivers back to my computer.

I solved this by uninstalling the driver from Device management, and then
reboot my computer. .. At least for some of the drivers this helped.

This is where I'm in need of some help.

I have a list here, with drivers that I have not managed to restore by
reinstalling the dell drivers. And most of em seems like Microsoft
Corporation drivers.

I don't know if this is true, but this is the info I gathered after a little
research on the missing drivers:

All info could be wrong, but it’s all gathered from the following site:

Forgot to add my question :p

Is there any way to restore those driver files? With a solution like "sfc
/scannow" perhaps? =D
sfc didn’t work for me though :-/ it could be that i made a mistake while
using it, but don’t think so, sins it seems simple enough to use :p

Truly hope for a solution that I have for some reason not seen myself yet :D
Thanks in advance.

The best thing to do is download the drivers you need
from Dell's web site and do not use any drivers available
on Microsoft's Windows Update site,

If your PC can not connect to the Internet then use a friends
computer and burn them to a CD.

The only possible method I would see now is to do a complete repair re-
install on top of the installed version. You system seems to be too
far gone since most of the default built-in drivers seem to have been
clobbered.

After you get your system to be stable again, I would completely
remove / ignore most web managed anti-virus system. In my experience,
these can cause a lot of problem:

1) Read incorrectly and list possible infections

2) If no Internet access (service down,) they lock down the PC. You
can hardly use it.

I have installed all the dell drivers that I can get from dells website.
Although, I believe some of those drivers are supposed to come with a clean
XP install, and should be a standard in the Windows XP Systems files.

This is my theory though :p I’m asking here cause I’m stuck, so it could be
that I’m wrong =)

Re-install is my last resort :p as I said earlier, this is my work computer,
and I would take at least a week just to get the software up and running
again :p this is if everything goes smooth :p

I have tried a repair, but that ended with fatal error :p and a computer
that couldn’t be used for anything else that running Live Linux distro's :p

Lucy me though, I made a backup with Acronis after the first crash, so that
I could tray and fail, without running scared of losing everything I have :p

Bad theory. The general concensus is to always use the drivers supplied by
the PC/hardware mfg, not windows update, I have seen them cause working
hardware to go to hell in a handbasket.

I see what you mean, but I think that there have been a misunderstanding here.

You probably talk about drivers like graphic card, sound, network and such.
But I’m more interested in those that I have mentioned in my first post. Or
rather, the sys files that I assume is a part of some driver that windows
uses.

Thank you =)
My computer is currently not available, sins its running some major backup,
but I will look into this as soon as my computer is back and running. But I
if I’m not mistaken, sins I have upgraded my computer to SP 3, will I then be
in need of a Win SP 3 CD?

Thank you yet again : )

Same to all others that have tried to help out in this thread so far :D

I found a solution that would work for those that are interested,

You would have to get every *.sys files that you are missing, and everyone
would have to be of the exact version.
If you have those, than you would just need to copy those into your
C:\windows\system32\drivers folder.
My way of doing this was that I booted up my computer from a Live uBuntu CD,
and copied them over with that.
Although, I did not manage to find all the right versions of my *.sys files,
so I will format my computer now, and make sure I take a backup image of my
computer when everything is perfect ;D

Thanks to you all!
Hope you are on this thread by a mistake, and are not looking for a solution
for this problem :p

All the best!

Did you try System Restore? Use the Acronis image to restore the machine to
the condition it was in when you made the image. If the computer can boot,
use System Restore to return to a date before the Panda scan, then get rid of
the Panda software. If System Restore doesn't work, you are probably out of
luck.

Thanks for your reply :D

But yeah, tryed that aswell, used all "restore" guides I could find using
google search ;P, but all without luck im afraid =(

Thanks for your time tho =)
