This may be a moot point now, but in the future when you delete something or
empty your Recycle Bin and want to recover something from it... Stop using
the computer now. Your recovery chances are better if the file has not been
overwritten.

This is free.

Restoration Version 2.5.14 Author: Brian Kato

Description
[[Restore files which are deleted from the recycle bin or deleted while
holding down the Shift key by mistake. Conversely, this program has another
function that makes it almost impossible to restore all deleted files. You
can use it after deletion of confidential documents, embarrassing files and
so on.]]

You might want to download this with a friend's machine and save it to a
floppy. Restoration will run fine from a floppy, that's how I run it.

What happens when I delete a file?
The NTFS file system contains a file called the master file table (MFT).
There is at least one entry in the MFT for every file on an NTFS volume,
including the MFT itself. When a file is deleted it goes to the Windows
Recycle Bin which is just another folder, a fancy folder maybe, but a folder
just the same. When the Recycle Bin is emptied, Windows marks the file name
in the MFT with a special character (E5h or $) that signifies to the
computer that the file has been deleted. Windows does not wipe the space on
the hard disk where this file is stored. The deleted file still exists, but
Windows thinks that it is gone and that space on the hard drive becomes
available to store another file. As long as new files are not stored in the
same location as deleted files, those files can be recovered.
