Restore applications

My system hard drive crashed. Luckily, I make regular backups to another
hard drive using Windows backup utility. I bought a new hard drive and made
a clean install of XP. I restored all my data, including the application
folders. However, I want to restore all my applications to the new OS
without reinstalling them, as this would take another day, at least.

Is there a way to restore my previously installed application settings so I
don't have to reinstall all my applications; for instance, using the backup
registry file? I cannot restore the system state since the new hard drive is
larger, and a system state restore requires exact same hardware.

unless you had cloned your entire system
you will need to reinstall your apps...
it should not be too difficult

Hi,

You have to reinstall them to create the needed registry entries. The
programs will not run properly without them, and you can't do it manually.

This is not the first time I have had to do this; I had a hard drive crash
last year, too. Is there a program that will make regular backups, so if I
have a hard drive crash, I can just buy a new hard drive, do the restore, and
be back the way I was?

Hi,

Sure, Image for Windows at www.terabyteunlimited.com will help you create
the image and burn it straight to CD/DVD for simple recoveries. There are
many other imaging programs as well
