Restoration on a Gateway

I've just recently had to use the restoration cds to rebuild my Gateway pc.
My problem now is if I shut down Windows or attempt to restart to add
software, I appear to lose Windows. I see the Gateway logo, then the
Windows xp screen, but then my screen goes to black. I can herr the Windows
music, but I can't do anything. My original problem had to do with an AOL
issue.

Thanks, John

You may have to wipe the drive, aka fill it with zeros to bring it to a
factory fresh state and then try the restore cds again.

Seen this happen! Was able to install and set up XP onto the hard drive
(not a Gateways). But as soon as I tried to use the system, system froze
and after the reboot, nothing pass the Windows XP start-up. Turned out the
hard drive was failing.
