Restarting for no apparent reason

My friend's computer restarts for no apparent reson, randomly, as if the
reset button was pressed. (There is no reset button on the computer)
It is not due to a Stop error, I told him how to disable automatic
restarting, and no blue screen ever appears. It does not come up with a
"Windows is shutting down" message either.
There does not appear to be a common link between restarts (e.g. as if
running a certain program triggers it), the timing and occurrences appear to
be totally random.

Any ideas how to resolve this issue?

I would suspect a hardware problem based on the brief description you have provided. First suspect would be overheating. Make sure all fans are running by visual inspection, make sure the inlet and outlets are not blocked by dust bunnies, and perhaps download Motherboard Monitor or similar software to show the temps of CPU, case, etc. If temps are OK, it could be a failing power supply, or any one of a number of less common problems such as bad capacitors on the mother board. You might want to do a web search for the specific brand and model to see if there are know issues with that computer family.

Mine did exactly the same when a CPU fan intermittently failed. Take the
cover off and see if the CPU is work all the time, mine would but
occasionally would stop then in seconds the CPU would overheat and cause a
restart
