When I start the system (XP Home),I get a message stating
that a hard drive needs to be checked for continuity. It
states that I can skip this if I wish, but strongly
recommends agains it (Also there seems to be no way of
stopping it anyway, as it goes right into it, with no
indication of how to skip it). It never seems to find a
problem, so I'd like to figure out why it insists on
checking every time.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried using your system utilities? Click Start,
All Programs, Accessories, System Tools. Run Disk Cleanup
to get rid of cookies and other temporary files. Disk
Defragmenter is a program that collects little fragments
of programs and puts them back in their assigned
directories so that the programs do not have to search as
long for the files they need to run. This should fix your
problem!

Sincerely,

Kenneth Clive.

I did a defrag last week, but the problem persists. I'll
try disk cleanup and see how that goes. I am currently
unable to log off this xp account, (unless I press the re-
set) but can use the programs...
Thanks,

Guy

Hi Guy,

See if this helps:

Chkdsk Runs Each Time That You Start Your Computer [Q316506]

That's what's causing your chkdsk to run the continuity check. Hitting
reset or the shutdown button leaves the dirty bit set on the harddrive, so
the next time you start it back up, it says the system was shutdown
improperly and needs to run the chkdsk. To fix your problem, you need to
fix the reason you can't shutdown properly.
