Resource Kit

Dumb question...is the Windows 2000 Resource Kit on a separate CD? I know
the Support Tools are on the OS CD, but I can't find the resource kit
anywhere. We have a site license, but there are no separate disks that I've
been able to find.

Thanks

There is one or at least there was one as it was distributed with a TechNet subscription.

Yes, it's on a separate CD... that you have to pay for. Some of the rk
tools are available for free download on the rk site. You can probably
find a copy on ebay for next to nothing.

Separate thing, some tools are available on the MS site. Do a search for
Resource Kit and you shold find the available ones.

They are standard EXE files. There is nothing in the utilities that won't let them run on
Win2K or WinXP. I have had the Resource kit since NT4. All the same utilities. They have
just been updated/upgraded.

I don't think Windows 2003 tools can be installed in Windows 2000.

FWIW, the system requirements are silent on Windows 2000 support for these
tools.

---quote---
System Requirements
a.. Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

a.. 30 MB of free disk space
b.. Windows XP
c.. Windows XP SP1
d.. Windows Server 2003 family
Note: The Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools are not supported on 64-bit
platforms.

It think that is mostly for the installer of the tools. The tools themselves, for the most
part, will work on Win2K. Some newer utilities are specific to Win2003 Server. But the
majority are the same utilities form NT4 Server Resource Kit and have just been updated.
