Resolving hostname through DUN

P

PaulSe

When I connect to Win2k Server Routing and Remote Access
via dial-up, name resolution does not appear to work for
one hostname that is 12 characters in length. I have
Enable Netbios over TCPIP set and Client for Microsoft
Network selected. I authenticate to the domain and can
access other network shares. Other hostnames resolve
fine, I am using 'ping' as the test tool. This is
causing a problem as the host in question is our Exchange
server and we cannot connect using Outlook through the
dial-up connection. One workaround is to add the
hostname to our local 'hosts' file but I want to make
sure that there isn't something we are missing.
TIA.

How many nics in the server? If it is 2, make sure you've done the regedits
in 292822.
What OS on the client(s)?

On the Remote Access server, there is one. On the
Exchange server, there are two, one of which is not
connected to anything. The clients are Win98, Win2K,
WinXP.

Got WINS installed on the server? W98 needs it.
Do the regedits in 292822.
