I have winxp pro when I try to change the resolution
insted of getting a smaler screen it becoms larger then
my monitor and have to scrol down to get to task bar any

Look in Display properties for a setting that handles how resolution
changes will be displayed. If the laptop's display drivers don't handle
this here, it may be tucked away in an OEM utility for the graphics driver.

It sounds like the system is letting you select a resolution (and scan rates
etc) that aren't compatible with your LCD display.
