Resetting Recovery (H:)

Guest

The bar The <Recovery (H:)> is completely red and shows only 2.66 MB free of
9.83 GB. Consequently, on my taskbar I’m repeatedly getting a pop-up box
that says <not enough space to save backup files (0x000005)<. How do I reset
the Recovery H: bar so that it is not all red and full up?

Is the disk actually full? Is this a Recovery Partition from the computer
manufacturer? If the disk is only 9.83 GB total, then is seems that it is a
manufacturer's Recovery Partition.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes to your first two questions. And yes, it is a manufacturer's Recovery
Partition.

Then I would advise you to leave it alone for an extra safeguard to recover your
system and it is most definitely not suitable or capable of being used for
backups. If the red bar bothers you, you can go to Computer Management > Disk
Management and unassign a drive letter and you won't see it anymore.

Remove the drive letter to it in Disk Managerment.

I read the replies to the post >my recovery disk shows a red bar< (5/29),
and tried the remedies. But the problem persists.

I wish I had known. I would have been better off if I had left it alone.
But I changed it a week ago (for a reason I cannot now remember). I’ve tried
system restore at three suggested points, but the system restore just won’t
work anymore.

The Recovery Partition is not used for System Restore. The Recovery Partition
is made by the computer manufacturer to wipe out your installation of Vista and
all your personal settings and your programs that you have installed. System
Restore is a function of Vista to return your system to a previous state. If you
are not able to use the Recovery Partition, then you will have to contact your
computer manufacturer to obtain Recovery Disks (unless you made them yourself
when you got your computer). If you are having problems with System Restore
then that is another matter.

management,

Sure....go to the search box on the start menu & type "Computer management"
without the quotes.
Open it.
Click "Disk Management" in the left window.
In the right menu right click the drive you want to remove the drive letter
on & choose "Change driver letter & paths".
Click "remove".
Click "ok".
Close computer management.

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management, highlight Disk
Management, right click the drive you wish to change, select Change drive letter
and paths..., click Remove button, ok all confirmations and exit Computer
Management

Thank you for your information on Recovery Partition, “Cal Bear ‘66’â€. I’ve
saved it for future reference. Also, I’m glad to say, the pop-up-box no
longer appears, for I followed the specific instructions that you and
another adviser kindly gave me. Again, many thanks.
