Reset Comm Port Numbers?

T

Tom S. Lee

I frequently install and uninstall serial port adapters in my development
tasks. Problem is, that every time XP sees a new adapter, or the same one
reinstalled again, the Comm Port number is increased.

I have uninstalled all devices, restarted my PC, then inserted a single
modem and the Comm Port is 14!. Is there a way to reset the number to 3 or
4?

Thanks for Help,

Tom Salicos

Hello Tom,
Yes there is.
Open Device Manager.
locate the Com Port, right-click and choose properties
Choose the Port Settings tab
Then choose the advanced button
At the bottom of that dialog box is a box to change the com port number
Thanks,
