How do I make a Rescue Disk under XP SP2, so that I can start up from a
diskette if unable to do it otherwise?

Thank you

The WinXP CD is bootable. You can use the Recovery console also.

There's no need for an ERD (Emergency Rescue Disk) with WinXP. The
WinXP installation CD is bootable, and provides access to the Recovery
Console.

Thanks but...

My problem is that I'm having diffculty starting the computer even if I do
manage somehow (don't know how) after a few tries.

Apart from my old drive A: (diskette) I had 2 CD drives D: and E:.
However, one of them stopped working, or isn't recognized since I upgraded
from 98SE to XP, and as I installed a USB pen, I now have drives A: C: (D: &
E: now belong to the pen) and my only CD drive is now F:

Should I still be able to boot from drive F: if all else fails? Or, how can
I rename drive F: to be drive D:?

Thanks

Yes.

The name F: that is given to your CD drive is given to it by Windows. When
you boot the computer, WIndows isn't involved it all. So at that point in
time, it's not yet F: (or D: if you rename it), it's just your CD drive, and
yes, you can boot from it. What Windows would call it if you got as far a
loading Windows is irrelevant.

Thanks

I wonder why I have difficulties loading from the CD then. Could it be
because it is a copy, rather than the original (which is mine but is at home
in the Uk, while I am at the mom in Portugal)?

How did you make the copy? Unless it was made properly, it could very easily
be the problem.
