I somehow obtained a virus or adware...confused on what it
is, but it is anoying...What happens is my homepage is set
to res:\\khkkw.dll\(something) even if i change the
homepage, it gets set back to this...so what i did was i
found the file khkkw.dll in C:\\windows and i deleted
it...this allowed me to change my home page. But now
whenever i type in a webpage and leave out www. it brings
up a res:\\khkkw.dll\ and the a little later, i open up
Internet Explorer again and the homepage is
res:\\khkkw.dll again, and i check C:\\windows, and the
file has been recreated...what the heck???

Caleb,

Download these programs, then install and UPDATE each one before
running. Finally boot into safe mode and run the scans. Afterwards you
should run these scans at least weekly:

Cwshredder
http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe

Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org

Bazooka Adware and Spyware Scanner
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10247783.html

After your system is clean try these two programs to help keep it clean:

Spywareblaster
www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html

IE-SPYAD
http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm

Make sure you are running a firewall at all times and that your
anti-virus program is a recent version with current virus definitions.
