Personally i always 'image' my hard drive(s) rather than simply backing up
files.
By re-registering are you actually talking about 'activation'? Registering
the software is voluntary, you are under no obligation to register your copy
of XP. You are, however obliged to activate your copy of XP. By imaging the
hard drive you will not have the need to activate again (unless you chnage
hardware on your pc after the image has beent again) should you have need to
image the drive back due to a system crash or other error.
On average i image my drive back every couple of months and have never had
to re-activate after using the image file.
