...requires valid sender

I have recently upgraded to Outlook 2002 and since, I've
not been able to successfully send an email to anyone
within 2 different organizations. I keep getting an error
message as follows:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended
recipients.

Subject: ...
Sent: ...

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

John Q. Public on 1/27/2004 12:03 AM
550 [PERMFAIL] soandso.com requires valid
sender

I am working with 3 different email accounts & have
changed them so that the "My SMTP server requires
authentication" box is checked, but that didn't work. Any
other ideas? Help is welcomed & greatly appreciated!

I think you should contact your own ISP for help. What it might be is
that the recipient's system has a spamblocking mechanism, that somehow
misidentifies your incoming email. It could be something your ISP can
fix.

It's also possible that the error message being given by the
recipient's mail server is wrong or misleading, it sometimes happens.

It is definitely an outlook problem - I can go onto my
ISP's website & log in to my email, and my messages go
through with no problem. Any other ideas? This is really
frustrating - I use my email to conduct daily business!!!

That doesn't mean it's an Outlook problem.

I would suggest it is an SMTP server problem. Where is your SMTP server
located? Do you run your own or does your ISP host one for you? Many mail
servers receiving mail are now checking various configuration items for
authenticity - reverse DNS, MX lookups etc. If your SMTP server is not
providing the correct response in reply to these queries from the mail
receiver, then your mail will be rejected as spam. If your ISP is running
the SMTP server, have them check that all these settings are correctly
identifying them.

Hi - I can't see the original post in here - and you haven't quoted it in
your reply, so I don't know what the specifics of your problem may be. Care
to repost a new message with all the appropriate detail?
