REQ: View Inside Zip/Rar Files - Explorer Style

J

jo

There have been a couple of threads on this recently and I've looked at
some of the recommended apps, but none seem to offer what I want.

I want a twin pane Explorer type interface. In the one pane I can have a
list of zip/rar etc files, and highlighting a file shows the content in
the other pane. I don't want to double click a zip file to see the
contents and then have to press the back button to move back to the zip
directory where I have to double click again.
I want to be able to navigate through a directory of zip/rars using
up/down arrows with the contents flashing past in the other pane :)

Surely such a beast exists? Was it mentioned in one of the recent
threads and I missed it?

You considered FMEdit98 ?

(Not including here a good web link for download, because I'd have to do
a search first...)

Excellent. This is very nice. Almost exactly what I want. Thanks.

Albeit not -perfect- fit (of course, what is..)

Disadvantage 1: Zips only. (No rar, or other)

Disadvantage 2: Clumsy to change paths. (But if the area where you keep
most zips is usually the same, and not spread about in 200 places, then
this won't be especially bothersome.)

Still, FMedit is closest I'm aware of for your purpose. And it is a nice
(and lightweight) general viewer tool, as well.

.. . .

Comment, regarding the specification here:

Powerarch, IZarc, 7zip, every one of these did the annoying full shift
to the view window. Not one offered an option for view as you described
(and which is the way I, too, would prefer the navigation)...

Hey JO

I was in on that thread and I discovered just the program that will do
exactly what you want it to do. Its called Firegraphic 6 and you can review
and download from here:

http://www.firegraphic.com/

You also may want to review the thread "ACDSee equivalent" of 10/20/04 that
has a lengthy discussion on it. In summary, the thread suggest that you
may want to remove these items from the Windows Systems Folder:

nakido.exe
nakido.dat and any other nakido files that you may find.

Also remove any registry entries.

This nakido exe calls home for updates. Removing these items in no way
harms the performance of the program.

It has just what you want one click on a zip file to reveal thumbnails of
all pictures in the zip file. This one is a definite keeper. Hope this
helps you out.

It's an excellent graphic viewer program.
