REQ: software to repair damaged PDFs

I recently posted about how Foxit could see some particular PDFs
which Adobe had problems with.

This made me consider damaged PDFs.

Is there any freeware to repair damaged PDFs?

The Elfima tools look interesting but some seem to be still in
development.

I really need a util which goes in and fixes the PDF file direct - if
such a thing is possible.
