REQ - FREEWARE to: Split long MP3 files into numerous shorter ones...

E

EDEB

I know there is freeware that will allow me to split a whole bunch of really
long MP3 files into smaller segments without too much fuss, but I can't
remember what it is... Who's got a better memory than I do?

I need to do this because I have a bunch of files which are reeeeallllly
long (like - hours and hours) and I want to be able to skip through them
quickly on an MP3 CD player, which has a very slow fast forward function
(thanks for that GOODMANS...) so I really need to split an hour of sound
into about twenty 3minute bits.

Now, since I'm breaking up the file arbitrarily at every three minute
interval, and not whenever there is a convenient break in the sound, I don't
want the thing to insert a second or two of silence between the tracks.

All help received with rejoicing!

TIA.

EDEB.

Here are a couple more.

MP3 Splitter/Joiner

Whether you have lots of small MP3 music file and want to join them up
into one large file, or visa-versa, this simple program will do it, you
can decide what size to split them up into, and has a clear-cut
'inferface' to help you do the job.

fvSplitter
http://www.all4you.dk/FreewareWorld/links.php?page=57&cat=005
http://www.freevryheid.com/index.php#2
fvSplitter splits mp3 albums into individual tracks and adds the title
of the track to the mp3 file name and tags it at the same time.
fvSplitter can search and download Compact Disk Database (CDDB) files.
These files contain the track titles and durations. The duration
information contained in these files do not necessarily match the split
points between tracks in your mp3 album. fvSplitter allows you to
manually adjust the presets in the CDDB files so that the individual
tracks split from mp3 albums start and end correctly.

Many thanks for all replies. Will try these out. Anyone know which one will
split a big batch of files?

Hi-
Doubtless you're trying all the recommendations posted here, but I
personally like audacity- it's a REALLY nice recorder and effect
system, too- and yes, it's totally free:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

PS- you can also futz around with the source, too if you decide to get
really into it.

Thanks KC, but Audacity is a bit too footery for me, as it can't do a batch
of files at once, and you have to manually do the file splitting. It's great
freeware though, and thanks for the suggestion.

Hi again EDEB-
Maybe this pgm will meet your needs?

PS-
I guess I'm a little confused about your batching your big MP3 files
into smaller files- but I hope this pgm meets your needs.
