The Windows XP Home boots for a while and just as it should be going to the
welcome or desktop it stops hard drive activity and the screen stays bland.

Will it boot if you disconnect all peripherals except mouse, keyboard
and monitor.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing
the F8 key during StartUp and select option - Disable automatic
restart on system failure.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Have you tried rebooting with your Windows XP CD in your CD
drive.

Hope this helps.
