Below is my original problem, one answer, and my repost. Any other thoughts,
anyone?
"am having difficulty getting a picture as a desktop background on another
user's desktop, on my computer.
I have enabled file sharing, and media sharing, and when I check the list of
folders shared, pictures is one of them. However, it doesn't work -
background is black on the desktop of the other user. Any hints? "

""I'm confused as to what you're trying to do. Are you trying to copy an
image
file from your computer to another computer or are you trying to have the
other computer display a file as wallpaper that lives on your computer?

If the latter, don't do that. Copy your wallpaper file to the other user's
computer via LAN file-sharing or transfer it on a USB stick.

If the former, perhaps you don't have file sharing set up properly. Before I
go into great detail about how to set up file sharing on a LAN, please post
back with clarification.

"""2 users on one computer. I have a number of pictures in the "pictures"
file
on the computer, and I am the main user.
My wife (the other user) shares these pictures, and I am trying to set one
of them as her desktop background.
I tried Control panel> network & file sharing> and set the "Media" to "on".
(in my user file) When clicking the "Show me all the files and folders I am
sharing", it indicates pictures, and is the correct corresponding file.
However, when I went to "personalize" in her identity, while it led to the
similar place, the same pictures appear, but when I chose a picture, it
merely went back to the control panel option, with the screen still black
background. And by the way, she has access to the pictures through the
picture viewing program I use (Picasa)""

That was my answer and if you reread it, you will see that the very first
thing I said was that I didn't quite understand what you were trying to do
and my very last sentence asked for clarification. That hasn't changed.

Again, post back with what you mean by "getting a picture as a desktop
background on another user's computer".

Put the photo that want to use as desktop for the other user account into the
Public Folder on your computer.

I did say in my reply:
"2 users on one computer. I have a number of pictures in the "pictures" file

My wife (the other user) shares these pictures, and I am trying to set one
of them as her desktop background." I can't make it any clearer. Sorry.

Sorry, I must have missed that. Put the pictures in the Public Folder.
That's what it is there for, to share files between users on the computer.

Thanks all. I will do that. Getting used to a new operating system is time consuming, but I think I like it......................
