Try Alt-F9 (toggle field code display)...<

Okay, I think I am missing something (I am really a Word beginner). Do I
just open up the document, position my curser somewhere at the end of the
text, and hold down Alt and then hit F9? And after I do that, then what
should happen? I don't know what a field code is. Or am I supposed to go to
the Insert>autotext drop-down menu and click Alt-F9 somewhere there?

Thanks again.

Anywhere in your document press Alt-F9. It changes how field codes (like the
Filename field) display. If you have a Date field in your document, look at
that when you toggle the display.

AHA! But the only field code in the document is one hyperlink. When I went
to insert the filename and path, it inserted the same text I mentioned in the
earlier post (that is, the actual words Filename and path:). And when I
toggled field codes, those words did not change their format (as did the
hyperlink; I checked that part of the document). Something was accidentally
moved or deleted from those drop-down menus, I think, and I am afraid it was
by myself not paying attention at some point. Can you help me get it back to
the way it should be?

Delete the "Filename and path" AutoText entry. Then insert this field:

{ FILENAME \p }

You must press Ctrl+F9 to insert the field delimiters (the things that look
like braces but aren't), then type between them.

Select that field, press Alt+F3, and give your new AutoText entry the name
"Filename and path."
