Reports with columns

Can anyone direct me to a place that explains how to create reports with
columns in detail?

I have seen an example that shows columns that display across then down, but
I need down then across. I can get down then across, except for a few areas
that need more than one column to display all the data. In these cases, the
remainder
of the data displays on the next page instead of the next column.

Does anyone know what I need to do to get detail to carry over into the next
column instead of the next page?

I don't understand what you mean 'get the detail to carry over into the next
column'. You have to define the display of the records so that it fits in
one column -- each record could, of course, be more than one line long
within the column. But if you can clarify so that we understand what you
really want/need, it is probable that someone may be able to assist.
